Zebra Technologies Antenna/RF Design Engineer, Principal in Holtsville, New York

Overview

Critical role of leading internal R&D into advanced custom embedded antenna/RF design solutions for 5G NR cellular/WWAN technology applications to drive implementable antenna/RF design solutions for Zebra's rugged and highly size & cost optimized NG EMC Product Portfolio.

Responsible for developing the Antenna/RF system design of highly reliable, ruggedized, handheld/body-worn smart-devices which are used for critical Enterprise Mobility-based applications while working in a global-situated, multi-functional project development team environment. These contain a multitude of co-located RF radio & embedded antenna subsystems as well as other leading smartphone technologies. Passionate about the specification, concept design, development and certification of the antenna/RF circuits/system solutions for these products, ensuring successful product launch into the Enterprise market.

Lead the design & development of mobile device embedded antenna sets, RF circuits, radios, and/or RF-subsystems for handheld & body-worn battery-operated Enterprise-class, data & voice enabled smart-devices.

Responsibilities

  • Works with customers, partners and others in creating solutions that integrate with Zebra devices

  • Works on design, development and delivery of integration solutions, covering all technical aspects of the implementation lifecycle.

  • Understands business challenges and translates them into process/technical solutions

  • Provides support for partners, integrators and customer's technical resources in delivering solutions

  • Responsible for project management of integration solutions of Zebra products and solutions

  • May work on creating training materials and participating in training programs.

  • Provides technical support for Zebra products and solutions at trade shows when requested

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline required.

  • 9+ years relevant experience required

Preferred Qualification

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • 6+ years relevant experience

  • Prior leadership role within a cross-functional product development team Project management of RF/radio development and RF system integration

  • Practical industry experience in designing with RF circuits using the latest Smartphone chipsets (i.e., Qualcomm, MediaTek, Intel, etc.) with a deep understanding of electromagnetic fields and microwaves

  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of a complete mobile wirelessly enabled product development lifecycle; concept through mass production

  • Relevant working experience in RF system integration for handheld, battery-operated mobile device applications is helpful

  • Showed strength in RF Lineup, Link Budget, Blocking and jamming analysis

  • Familiarity with RF/EM CAD simulation (i.e., ADS, CST, etc.) to perform PCB simulation of RF circuits & electronic assemblies

  • Hands-on experience with dense multilayer PCB board layout of RF circuits & modules; in-depth knowledge of design techniques used in designing for consideration of co-located, high-power transceivers and highly sensitive radio receivers for RF coexistence & EMI/ESD compliance

  • Ability to successfully work in a cross-functional development environment, as well as independently with motivation and self-direction

  • Demonstrated RF design proficiency to achieve 1st-pass FCC/ETSI/3GPP compliance with recent success cases Proven proficiency to achieve Carrier compliance (i.e., AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) with recent success cases

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • In addition to speaking fluent English, it would be advantageous to have the ability to converse & write in Chinese or Mandarin
